These are some 2-10 min figure drawings I did in Glenn Vilppu’s life drawing class. He is such an amazing teacher that teaches you how to draw realistic figure from scratch. I am so glad his class is in our program’s curriculum. Sometimes I can find some awesome pretty drawings in my sketchbook. But when looked at them closely, I sadly realized they are Glenn’s… He is and always will be my motivation to draw.
I didn’t draw for quite a while after I started learning Maya. When I put my pencil on my sketchbook after abandoned it for 3 months, I didn’t even want to look at my drawings. I am so glad that finally I found my ability to draw, and, amazingly, those experiences in 3D becomes great tools for analyzing shapes and volumes. Improvement feels good!

Dispatch - 0526 first draft from Yinglei on Vimeo.
[PLOT]
“Dispatch” tells a story of a voyage in a uterus city. A young mom loves her fetus so much yet she has to give her unborn child away. The tangled relationship between the mom and the fetus results in a tragic ending.
The story is inspired by the Romanian film “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days”, the “Palme d’Or” winner of 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
“Dispatch” is the main project of Yinglei’s first year MFA program at UCLA animation workshop. The first draft of this film was shown on June 4, 2011 at “Prom” aka UCLA Festival of Animation. The crew are still working on the updated version.
